Models

Models: We’re changing the rules!

What’s cool about owning my own business is I get to do things my way and if I want to challenge the way things are getting done then I can.  You’ll see where I’m going with this in a sec.  Here’s the thing, the standards in the industry for models is that they need to be above 5’7 size 0-3 aside from the fact that they have a certain lifetime as a model.  Meaning that once they pass a certain age unless they become high demand and have a successful commercial career in magazines, they aren’t sought after, once they’re past a certain age.

Industry Standards

I’ll admit something terrible.  For a brief moment years ago when I did fashion shows I wanted to get into commercial fashion photography until I heard myself say that out loud to my sister.  I was going to do a model call and I was looking for women 5’7 size 0-3 and she asked me why.  I said something like, “Oh, If I want to shoot commercially…that is what they are looking for.” Saying that out loud was enough to make me want to puke. I mean I never even looked that way and always felt a little thicker than I wanted to be. I realized how pathetic it was. Needless to say I changed that mentality real quick.

I’ll tell you why that doesn’t make any sense to me.  We come in all shapes and sizes. I get it some women have the looks there is no question about that.  But working with women of all ages, shapes and sizes I can tell you I have heard all the complex comments from thin girls to thick girls, young and old.  I think you are beautiful whichever size you are, if you have blue eyes, brown eyes, a small nose a big nose, thin thighs, thick thighs the most beautiful thing you can own is a smile.  It’s compassion, adventure, kindness whatever your thing is that makes you, you.

Changing it up!

So I’m changing it up and I refuse to follow industry standards.  My stock vault features women who look just like you and I.  We feature a variety of shapes and sizes and I think that these women are totally relatable.  I’m not saying you wont find a tall slender person in my stock vault because again everyone has their own beautiful uniqueness, I’m saying we have variety and it’s not my primary focus. I refuse to be molded into societies standards for what beauty looks like.

As far as marketing goes I keep in mind that each business has a target audience.  It ranges and so does target age.  You will find women of all ages featured to compliment your marketing strategy.
